HOUSING EMERGENCY

WHAT WE CANNOT DO:

  • We cannot provide emergency housing.
  • We cannot sign a person’s ‘fiador’ or tenancy guarantee.
  • We cannot contribute to rental arrears, financial costs or support in any directly financial way.

Longer-term / non-emergency: In the search for longer term (non-emergency) accommodation, the Bridge Team may be able to assist with communication. Such as Portuguese translation/mediation, conversations with estate agents/landlords if you have identified suitable housing place and having difficulty progressing the process due to the language barrier. 

This support can be accessed by attending the LP anytime we are open and requesting to speak with a member of the "Bridge Team."


HEALTHCARE EMERGENCY

WHAT WE CANNOT DO:

  • We cannot provide any type of emergency healthcare.

WHAT WE CAN DO:

Urgent/emergency healthcare: we can give you the following contact information or help you connect to these non-LP services:

  • Emergency Services – 112
  • Centro de Saúde to which the CM is registered

Longer-term/ non-emergency : we may be able to provide Bridge Team (Portuguese translation/mediation) support for communications with healthcare professionals if you are having difficulty communicating with SNS/non-LP healthcare professionals due to language.


This support can be accessed by attending the LP anytime we are open and requesting to speak with a member of the "Bridge Team."


INADEQUATE ACCESS TO FOOD OR OTHER ESSENTIALS

WHAT WE CANNOT DO:

  • We cannot provide financial or food support.

WHAT WE CAN DO:

The LP does not directly provide food support but Community Members can be redirected to the organisations listed below to access of these services. 

  • JRS (cooked food which needs to be picked up from a JRS centre in Campo Grande – CMs can be set up to receive this support quickly after contacting JRS.)
  • Refood (cooked food which can be picked up weekly from a local centre after a CM registers)
  • Banco alimentar (dried and fresh food items which are provided through a CM´s local junta de freguesia after they are registered)

If you find it challenging to contact the organisations, you can attend the LP anytime we are open and request to speak with a member of the "Bridge Team."


EMERGENCY LEGAL SITUATION

WHAT WE CANNOT DO:

  • We cannot provide immediate legal advice or intervention.

Non-emergency situation which may be administrative: The Lisbon Project does not provide direct legal support or representation but our "Bridge Team" can help with administrative issues and they can get advice from a lawyer about whether you do need legal representation or not. If you do not need legal help, the "Bridge Team" can continue to help you navigate the steps you need to take to progress the issue. 

We are also - in April 2024 - launching a new information platform called AdminHub which is gathering information about key administrative processes and may help you understanding your paperwork! 


CHILD ABUSE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND/OR EXPLOITATION

WHAT WE CANNOT DO:

  • Ignore.

WHAT WE CAN DO:

If we become aware of a potential situation of child abuse, domestic violence, exploitation/trafficking or any situation of a child or vulnerable adult being harmed, we must alert the Lisbon Project safeguarding team through THIS FORM.

The Lisbon Project does not have the specialist knowledge or expertise to handle these situations itself but we have established relationships with specialist organisations who we would seek to connect you to where needed. Since these situations must be handled with maximum care and sensitivity, we require that all such concerns are escalated to the Safeguarding Team so that we can support or lead communication with you around these issues.

As is listed in the introduction to the Safeguarding Concern Form, if the concern you are writing about is a time-sensitive emergency, you can also contact the police (112) or any of the below services directly:
